Games

You’ve got the whole world in your hands

Well, ‘Afterworld’ on your mobile, if you want to split hairs. It’s one of a trio of fab new mobile games launched this summer by Sony Pictures Television International

Mobile phones aren’t just for texting, photoblogging and calling your Mum to find out what’s for dinner, you know – these days they also allow you to fly superheroes, go on puzzle shows and save humanity. Well, in the form of mobile games, that is. Here’s a run-down of the new games for your mobile from SPTI.

Afterworld

As if having a TV series, website and established online community wasn’t enough, Afterworld has gone and made itself into a game for your mobile as well.

If you’re not familiar with the series, it’s an animated futuristic adventure set after a catastrophic event known as “The Fall” which causes 99 per cent of humanity and most technology to vanish overnight.

In the mobile game, armed with a tranquiliser gun and various strategic abilities, you’ll battle enemies while re-establishing contact and gathering survivors in daring adventures spanning five continents.

Forget the newspaper – saving the human race is a much better way to unwind on the train after a long day at the office.

Hancock

Hancock: the Mobile Game is based on the feature film starring Will Smith. It’s an addictive, “one button” game that uses directional pads to keep Hancock in the air and out of the path of buildings, trees and even aircraft as the unconventional superhero saves people in peril.

Good timing at the controls keeps Hancock from wreaking havoc on the city, while successfully completing levels earns upgrades to Hancock’s superhero uniform, and unlocks access to new power-ups.

Wheel of Fortune Deluxe

For those seeking a more cerebral experience, Wheel of Fortune puts mobile gamers on the hit TV puzzle show – when they’re on the go. Players choose from all-new animated avatars in three modes of dynamic play: single download, against the computer or in toss-up rounds.

Quantum of Solace

Meanwhile, don’t forget to keep an eye out for future releases, particularly Quantum of Solace. The hugely anticipated mobile game from the Bond movie is scheduled to launch at the end of October at the same time that the movie hits our screens. We can’t guarantee that the game will get you the girl, but we’re pretty sure it'll be a lot of fun.
